The lodge

The Lodge is a private and exclusive bush lodge situated in Welgevonden Game Reserve which is a well-established Big 5 game reserve in the Limpopo Province of South Africa and in the heart of the Waterberg Biosphere.

The Lodge was built using eco-friendly, ‘green’ products and runs off solar power. The lodge blends into the surrounds and has a low impact on the environment. All paints and consumables used for the construction and running of the lodge are eco-friendly and no hard woods were used. Even the sewerage system is eco-friendly. Efforts have been made to give the lodge a low carbon footprint by making use of solar power which is a renewable energy source and a nearby borehole for water.The lodge is positioned in a quieter area of the reserve far from human influence and disturbance, the entire lodge is elevated offering beautiful and uninterrupted views over the reserve and wooded valley below.

The lodge is elevated and overlooks a wooded plain and private waterhole. The elevated position offers beautiful and uninterrupted views over the reserve and up the Waterberg escarpment.

Natural & rustic finishes blend perfectly with the environment.The lodge and all materials used are eco-friendly and completely ‘green’. The lodge blends in to the surrounds and has a low impact on the environment; effort has been made to ensure the lodge is sustainable and has a very low carbon footprint. It makes use of solar powered renewable energy and sustainable borehole water with solar supply, enviro-friendly paints and consumables have been used. No hard woods have been used in construction and there is a completely sustainable water supply with an eco-friendly sewerage system.

The main lodge boasts a comfortable lounge and reception area with large viewing deck and swimming pool. Relax on the loungers around the pool while you may be lucky to see animals moving in to the local waterhole. As evening approaches enjoy a sundowner at the bar or move out on game drive in search of the many species which occur within the reserve. The lodge is unfenced and offers a real nature experience.

This is an exclusive lodge, catering for a maximum of 10 guests in well positioned and well appointed luxury tents.Accommodation is in luxury tents which are more like canvas lodge rooms with lovely views and very well-acquainted bathrooms. Large double beds and outside lounges allow you complete comfort and relaxation in a true wilderness setting. Dinners are around the campfire and traditional South African meals are served in the main lodge. Self-catering group packages are also available. The rates include two game activities with one of our game rangers.

In addition to the Big 5, there are numerous other species which occur within the reserve. It also offers some of the best rhino and cheetah sightings in Southern Africa. Positioned in one of the ‘sweeter’ bushveld areas in the western section of the reserve, with an abundance of plains game which will in turn attract the large number of predator species which occur in the reserve.

PLEASE NOTE: The lodge is unfenced and in a big 5 area and guests may not walk out of the vicinity of the lodge at any time. Their movements are restricted between the top tent and the bottom tent if there is not a staff member with them and it is advisable to stay on the pathways. At night time, guests are advised to not walk around unnecessarily and to allow a staff member to walk them to their tents after dark. Guests should be aware of their surroundings. Animals such as elephants occasionally walk around the camp and they can also watch out for snakes, scorpions and baboons. Please keep tents or rooms closed.

Since this is an eco-lodge and is completely solar run, it thus cannot run high voltage appliances. Guests with hair dryers and similar products that use many Watts will be requested to leave their appliances in the vehicle at the gate or to not use it.

Laundry & drinks are available, but excluded.
